Twenty-four young adults living in France, Germany and Poland met in the small Lower Silesian village of Krzyżowa. As the meeting place of the Kreisau Circle resistance group and in the context of German-Polish reconciliation, Krzyżowa is of great significance to European history. With its history, the place provided a starting point for discussing war, resistance, flight and expulsion. Part of the project week also involved artistic reflection on the participants’ own family histories: in three workshops (drawing, pottery, analogue photography), the participants individually processed moments of migration and movement. Current social issues such as the situation of migrants at European borders were also discussed.
Intercultural learning is at the heart of this encounter project. In addition to historical education and artistic work, the days were therefore filled with language activities and methods of intercultural communication.

While the participants hardly knew each other before the start of the first project phase, a strong sense of community developed over the course of the week. The programme was enriched by a variety of ideas, partly also contributed by the participants. The six days together passed far too quickly. The long wait until the next phase of JAZDA in April in France will therefore be bridged with online meetings.
JAZDA is organised by the Friedland Museum, the Kreisau Foundation, the FIEF and the IB Göttingen. The project is co-financed by the Franco-German Youth Office and the European Union.
